Chomsky on Kashi

I'm starting to understand what Per Franklin  was saying in his blog, PerFrankBlog, when he was making reference to the new album by Shirley Girl and that lyric, "Isn't it true, what they say about you?" This is almost the same thing that Sherry Northwood was saying in her blog, SherNoBlog, after she went to see Noam Chomsky speak at the Rathskeller. Are we really all doing the same thing? Is that the truth?

Oh, and also, I finally tried that cereal "Good Friends" you know the one w/the photo of those happy people from different ethnic backgrounds you always see in health food stores. I didn't think I'd like it but kashi has that sort of, I don't know, flavor. It's like a flavor that reminds of something. I can't remember what.

What the shoe knew

This is the first time I've gotten back here in a while and a lot has happened. I bought  a new pair of shoes. It's amazing how this experience, of walking into a shoe store, struck me as a real archetype for what we are all doing, all the time. Shoes serve our feet in ways that no other clothing does or could. Or should. Or might. In fact, the entire act of purchasing shoes, trying them on, taking them out of the box, resting your foot on that tilted stool is really a broad metaphor for the consumer's
experience. And it's this experience that I want to explore more in this blog. After all, as Nietzche said, "Were it not for the shoes, the being would cease its presence on this earth."

I also had an idea to start a sock company that custom makes socks. Think about it. You can buy custom made shirts, suits, pants, but socks are forgotten. I'm thinking of this like Daniel Day-Lewis, becoming a cobbler. Does anyone know where the word "darning" got used to apply to socks. And, why did it come to reduce the impact of the harsher curse:"damn?"

This too is like a metaphor for all of communication.

Ipcriss & Siobhan

I've been listening to Shawless by American Milk Crate AMilkr8Blog. I love how the sound is really an amalgam of P-funk, Phillip Glass, Pink Floyd and the Bay City Rollers, with a wash of Pere Ubu thrown in. They're coming to Slam on Friday. I might ask Ipcriss and Siobhan if they want to come. We get into these really wild abstract conversations. Last time the three of us went out, we wound up talking so much that the metal band Fragmint, FragBlog that was playing literally stage dove on us and we didn't catch them.

What the blog is really all about

I'm not sure if people are understanding what this blog is all about. I'm getting a lot of email saying, "What are you talking about?"and "Have you sought professional help?" It's amazing how I'm struck by this experience of people asking me these intense questions.

The impulse is to explain myself, but I like the idea of not saying anything.  I don't really know why, maybe I don't have anything to say.

Shoe Meaning

I don't know why, but I'm really interested in shoes lately.  I'm not really interested in the the style or anything, just looking at different feet, what people are wearing, the shapes and colors, materials.  Whenever I get kind of interested in something like this, I try to figure out why.  I think the reason I'm so interested in shoes has something to do with the war in Iraq.  I don't know that there's a connection...maybe because the country is sort of shaped like a shoe.  Or, more like, it's shaped like one of those little stools the shoe salesman sits on where you place your foot on the rubber mat on the incline.  Maybe that's why.  I'll bet those stools are collectible antiques now.  Even more collectible must be the Brannock foot measuring device.   shoe measuring thing
